HELP CHILDREN AFFECTED BY EARTHQUAKE
THE WORLD OF FASHION IS UNITING FOR CHILDREN
We are trying to heal our wounds after the earthquakes starting February 6 in Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 provinces in Türkiye. There’re over 1 million people residing at temporary shelters in cold temperatures with limited access to basic services such as water, sanitation and healthcare. Millions are in need of aid. Unfortunately, children are one of the groups most affected in the short and long term by this disaster.
As part of the "Fashion Unites for Türkiye" campaign, Vogue Türkiye will launch two different charity collections during March and April 2023. For the first collection Turkish designers were asked to interpret a special piece from their 2023 Spring/Summer collection to be auctioned, and for the second one, global designers were asked to design limited edition t-shirts to support emergency relief. Without any profit all the income from the sale of these two collections will be transferred to the UNICEF Turkish National Committee for the benefit of children affected by the earthquake.
We urgently need your support to reach more children faster. You can support the "Fashion Unites for Turkiye" fund with your donation.
How will UNICEF help?
UNICEF, a pioneer and expert in emergency humanitarian aid, which currently carries out a multifaceted program with strong public and civil society partners in southeast Türkiye to help disadvantaged children reach quality education. UNICEF is working around the clock since the first day of the earthquake. UNICEF's response focuses on protecting children, providing emergency psycho-social support, activating child-friendly spaces and temporary learning spaces, supporting water mains and related services, as well as health and nutritional needs.
► UNICEF ensured the evacuation of children living in kindergartens in affected areas to safe areas. UNICEF, together with the Ministry of Family and Social Services (MFSS), supports the identification of Unaccompanied and Separated Children and directs them for necessary follow-up. UNICEF has launched a legal empowerment program to support affected children and families access to their rights, justice and legal support.
► UNICEF delivers critical supplies to the region, including hygiene kits and non-food items such as winter clothing, electric heaters and blankets that children and families need so much. In coordination with AFAD, UNICEF is installing units with toilets and showers, including disabled-friendly ones, in temporary shelters.
► Nearly 4,500 UNICEF-trained MFSS social workers and local civil society partners provide psychosocial support to children around the clock at service points, tents, camps, schools or wherever they are housed.
► UNICEF is establishing child and family friendly centers in coordination with MFSS. 20 “BERABER centers” will be operating in 10 provinces.
► Approximately 5,000 young volunteers, led by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and trained by UNICEF, provide support to more than 160,000 people in temporary accommodation centres.
► UNICEF supports the Turkish Government's plans to set up school tents and prefabricated classrooms where schools are no longer usable. UNICEF provided the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) with 87 tents to be used as temporary education centers and schools. Cash transfer is provided to support the MoNE for 500 tents that will be used as temporary learning spaces for approximately 40,000 students. A cash transfer will also be provided to the MoNE for minor repairs and teaching materials for 1,179 schools, including approximately 300,000 children, 900 of which are located in the provinces affected by the earthquake.
► UNICEF plans work on children's health and nutrition in temporary accommodation centers with the Ministry of Health and other partners.
► UNICEF and MFSS are planning a cash transfer program for 500,000 households with children affected by the earthquake.
